Please note that the Fanie Booysen Ice Breaker due to take place on 19 June 2010 has been cancelled. Tshwane (Pretoria) Metro Police cancelled all events in Pretoria from 1 June to 15 July 2010 due to the FIFA World Cup. Sorry, see you in 2011!!!
The Fanie Booysen Ice Breaker was again a great success!!!!
Rated by Runner's World as one of the best 10km races in South Africa for 2009 (for the 2nd year in a row)!
The name of the race – Ice Breaker – is derived from the time of year the race is run, nearest the winter solstice on June 21.
Here are some of the photos . . .

A special thank you to the Dutch Reformed Church Garsfontein and Arete Sports Club for organising this event.
Laerskool Garsfontein was a bee hive of activity on the day. There were about 2,500 people who came and the clubs had their gazebos and club tents on the rugby field. A special finish was made for the occasion.

There were many spot prizes to be won.
There was even a table with FREE gifts, so if you
haven't won something you could have taken something you needed from this table.
The prizes were CDs from Maranatha Records, books from Forum Stationers
in Faerie Glen, even paint from Jack's Paint at Atterbury Decor,
gifts from SupaQuick Menlyn Retail, AutoXtra Renault Menlyn City
and vouchers from Silver Chief Spur Menlyn City.

Many thanks to our sponsors of the water tables.
They were Silver Chief Spur (table 1), SupaQuick Menlyn Retail (table 2),
Peet Viljoen Inc (table 3) and AutoXtra Renault Menlyn City (table 4).

The race was enjoyed by everyone alike!!!

The friendly members of Arete Sports Club
welcomed everyone at the finish line.
Well done to all of you for all your hard work!!!

Wesley Ruto of Toyota and Annerien van Schalkwyk of Irene Club were the
overall winners in the open category for men and women respectively.
Congratulations on a fine performance!
“This is a very well organised race and I am happy to have won. Next year I will be back to defend my title,” said Ruto.
“I think this race will grow in popularity as it is a well organised race and one can understand why it was voted the best 10km last year,” said the tall Van Schalkwyk.
Mag jy werklik seen ontvang."
